Hymn for the Week: Before reading the Scriptures

Father of all, in whom alone
We live, and move, and breathe, (Acts 17:28)
One bright celestial ray dart down,
And cheer thy sons beneath.

While in thy Word we search for thee (John 5:39)
(We search with trembling awe!)
Open our eyes, and let us see (Ps. 119:18)
The wonders of thy law.

Now let our darkness comprehend (John 1:5)
The light that shines so clear;
Now the revealing Spirit send,
And give us ears to hear. (Matt. 13:9)

Before us make thy goodness pass, (Exod. 33:19)
Which here by faith we know;
Let us in Jesus see thy face, (2 Cor. 4:6)
And die to all below. (Gal. 6:14)
